A Message from the Director Greetings and a warm welcome to our global community. When we first opened our doors as a grassroots childcare and education project, our mission was simple yet urgent: to provide a safe haven for children who had nowhere else to turn. As we looked into the eyes of the children in the slums, suburbs, and rural boundaries of the greater Kampala area, we saw a profound hunger—not just for food, but for hope, dignity, and a chance at a future. In 2022, to better reflect the growing depth of our commitment, we officially became the SomerHill Kids Education Initiative (SKEI). Operating from our home base in Wakiso, SKEI is a registered local NGO born out of a deep love for humanity and an unyielding refusal to ignore the plight of vulnerable children. The communities we serve face staggering hardships. Every day, our team witnesses the harsh realities of extreme poverty, systemic neglect, and the quiet desperation of children slipping through the cracks. We refuse to look away. Our work is built on five core pillars, each designed to rescue, restore, and empower: • Education & Scholastic Support: We believe education is the ultimate equalizer. Through our charity outreaches, we donate essential scholastic materials to ensure that children in informal settlements can stay in school and unlock their God-given potential. • Child Welfare & Rescue Programs: No child should ever have to endure abuse, abandonment, or starvation. SKEI actively steps into dangerous situations to rescue children, providing them with immediate protection, psychosocial support, and a pathway to a safer life. • Food Security & Nutrition: You cannot teach a hungry child. We routinely distribute food relief to families and children living in the slums, ensuring they receive the basic nourishment required to survive and grow. • Girls’ Empowerment & Advocacy: We stand fiercely as advocates for the girl child. By addressing menstrual hygiene, fighting early marriages, and offering mentorship, we break the chains of vulnerability and empower young women to lead. • Livelihood & Economic Strengthening: True sustainability means empowering the families behind the children. We work with caregivers in marginalized areas to build sustainable livelihoods, helping households transition from dependency to self-reliance. Our current goal is both ambitious and deeply personal: we are striving to expand our reach to more underserved rural zones and urban slums, securing permanent resources to ensure that no child we rescue is ever turned away. We want to build lasting structures that guarantee continuous education, health, and emotional healing for thousands more children. We cannot do this alone. The heartbreak of poverty is vast, but the power of collective compassion is greater. Whether you are a first-time visitor to our website, a potential partner, or a friend from afar, I invite you to join hands with us. Together, we can rewrite the stories of these resilient children, turning statistics of despair into testimonies of hope and triumph. Thank you for opening your heart to SomerHill Kids Education Initiative. With deepest gratitude, Director & Founder SomerHill Kids Education Initiative (SKEI) | |
