Where We Work Serving the Heart of Kampala and Wakiso The Somerhill Kids Education Initiative operates directly within the margins where the need is greatest. Our headquarters are located in Wakiso, positioning us at the center of the communities we serve. We deliberately focus our efforts on the densely populated slums and suburbs around Kampala City and Wakiso District. These areas face immense socioeconomic pressures, including high unemployment, overcrowding, and a severe lack of affordable, quality educational infrastructure. We currently operate active programs and interventions in four key communities: • Kamwokya: Serving children within this vibrant but heavily congested informal settlement in Kampala, ensuring they have a safe haven to learn away from the pressures of the streets. • Bwaise: Operating in an area frequently challenged by environmental hardships and deep financial vulnerability, bringing stability and consistent education to families. • Gganda: Providing vital educational access to children in this rapidly growing suburb, keeping pace with the expanding population's needs. • Nansana: Delivery of targeted learning and welfare programs to support vulnerable households in one of Wakiso’s most populous urban zones. By placing our roots firmly within these neighborhoods, SKEI ensures that help is never distant. We are not just visitors in these communities—we are part of their fabric, dedicated to turning areas of hardship into hubs of hope and academic excellence.
