Our Story: From a Vision to a Movement

Somerhill Kids Education Initiative (SKEI) began with a simple yet profound realization: every child deserves a foundation built on love, safety, and quality learning. We first started as a humble childcare and education project, born out of a direct response to the urgent challenges faced by children in our community.

As we walked alongside these children and witnessed their immense potential—and the systemic barriers standing in their way—our vision grew. In 2022, we officially re-founded and re-named our organization as Somerhill Kids Education Initiative (SKEI). Today, we operate as a registered non-profit organization in Uganda, dedicated to rewriting the futures of vulnerable children through the transformative power of holistic education.

Our Core Programs

We believe that educating a child requires nurturing their entire ecosystem. Our work is delivered through three pillars:

• Early Childhood Care & Foundation Learning: We provide safe, stimulating environments where young children receive the critical early cognitive, social, and emotional care needed for lifelong success.

• Primary Education & Academic Sponsorships: We bridge the financial gap for children who would otherwise drop out, providing tuition, scholastic materials, and mentorship to keep them in school and thriving.

• Holistic Child Welfare & Nutrition: Education is impossible on an empty stomach or in a state of trauma. We provide nutritional support, health monitoring, and psycho-social counseling to ensure our children are healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

Our Current Goals

As we look to the future, our hearts are set on expanding our reach and deepening our impact. Our immediate goals include:

• Expanding Classroom Infrastructure: Building and equipping sustainable learning spaces to accommodate more children who are currently waiting for an opportunity to learn.

• Strengthening Community & Literacy Outreaches: Launching mobile reading clinics and community literacy programs to foster a culture of learning outside the school walls.

• Securing Sustainable Partnerships: Finding passionate individuals, corporations, and global partners who will stand with us to secure the long-term funding needed to sustain our children's education.
